Zamling Chisang, also called Universal Prayer Day, is a sacred Tibetan festival observed to commemorate Guru Rinpoche’s victory over local spirits and the establishment of Samye Monastery. Devotees across Tibet gather to perform spiritual rituals, including burning incense on hills and in monasteries, hanging colourful prayer flags, and lighting butter lamps. Monasteries often display large thangkas while communities participate in prayers and offerings, creating a vibrant atmosphere of devotion and celebration. The festival emphasises purification of negative energies, accumulation of merit, and spreading blessings to all beings, making it both a spiritually significant and culturally immersive experience.
