Start your day with a guided visit to the majestic Potala Palace, the former winter residence of the Dalai Lamas. Originally built in the 7th century by Tibet’s 33rd king, this architectural marvel stands as a symbol of Tibetan Buddhism and cultural pride. Inside, you'll explore its richly adorned chapels, view the gilded burial stupas of past Dalai Lamas, and visit the meditation cave of the 33rd king—each steeped in deep spiritual and historical significance.

After lunch, continue to Jokhang Temple, Tibet’s holiest shrine, also established by the 33rd king in the 7th century. Begin your scenic drive from Lhasa to Shigatse, crossing the Gampala Pass at 4,790 meters. From this vantage point, take in breathtaking views of Yamdrok-Tso, a stunning turquoise lake nestled at 4,400 meters and framed by snow-capped peaks. In the distance, the majestic Holy Mount Nyenchen Khangsar soars to 7,191 meters, the highest peak near Lhasa.

As you continue, pass the impressive Korola Glacier and pause at Manak Dam Lake to participate in the Tibetan tradition of hanging prayer flags at Simila Mountain Pass—a meaningful moment of spiritual connection and reflection.

Next, continue to Tsurphu Monastery, the historic seat of the Karmapa, leader of the Kagyupa school of Tibetan Buddhism. Learn about the revered “Black Hats” and their sacred customs. If you visit between June and September, you might witness the vibrant ‘Linka outing’, a traditional Tibetan picnic celebrated in the village below the monastery.
