Day to Day Itinerary

Your journey begins with a warm welcome upon arrival in Lhasa, whether you've come by flight or train. As you make your way to the hotel with your guide, take in the serene beauty of the Lhasa River and the mighty Yarlung Tsangpo—Tibet’s most important rivers, flowing through vast highland landscapes.

Once you’ve checked in, the remainder of the day is yours to relax and acclimate to the altitude of this elevated city. If energy permits, a gentle walk to Potala Square offers a beautiful introduction to Lhasa. The glowing fountains and stunning views of the Potala Palace create a magical setting for your first evening in the Tibetan capital.

Your day begins with a visit to one of Tibet’s most iconic landmarks—the Potala Palace. Perched atop the city, the Potala Palace once sheltered the Dalai Lama during the winter months and today stands as a proud symbol of Tibet’s cultural soul. Originally built in the 7th century by the 33rd king of Tibet, it now houses sacred relics, including golden stupas of former Dalai Lamas and the meditation cave of the visionary king who founded it.

After a local lunch, the spiritual journey continues to the revered Jokhang Temple, also established in the 7th century. Within its ancient walls resides one of Tibet’s holiest treasures: a life-like statue of Buddha Shakyamuni as a young boy. Outside the temple, you’ll witness a powerful scene—pilgrims of all ages bowing in full-body prostration, expressing deep devotion.

Surrounding Jokhang is the vibrant Barkhor Street, where age-old traditions meet the rhythm of daily life. Join the locals in performing a kora, the ritual circumambulation, as you explore colorful market stalls brimming with prayer flags, incense, and traditional handicrafts.

In the evening, unwind with a steaming cup of Tibetan butter tea at a local teahouse and enjoy a traditional welcome dinner—an experience that beautifully blends culture, cuisine, and the warm hospitality of Lhasa.

Your day begins with an excursion to Dadong Village, often praised as one of the most picturesque villages near Lhasa. Located about 25 kilometers southwest of the city, this ancient settlement is nestled in a scenic valley and offers a peaceful window into traditional Tibetan life. During your visit, you'll explore Nyimatang Monastery—an 11th-century spiritual retreat steeped in history and quiet reverence.

As part of this cultural immersion, you’ll be welcomed into a local Tibetan home, where you’ll share a traditional meal prepared by the family—an intimate and flavorful experience that connects you with the region’s warm hospitality.

In the afternoon, the journey takes you to Sera Monastery, one of the three great Gelugpa monasteries of Tibet. Known for its lively debating tradition, you’ll witness monks engaging in animated philosophical debates in the courtyard—typically held between 3:00 and 5:00 PM. You'll also explore the monastery’s printing house, which still produces Tibetan religious texts using traditional woodblocks.

Today offers a unique blend of countryside serenity and spiritual intensity, providing a deeper understanding of both rural life and monastic tradition in Tibetan culture.

Surrounded by rolling hills and a dramatic backdrop of snow-dusted peaks, the lake offers a panoramic view that includes the majestic Mount Nyenchen Khangsar, the tallest mountain in the Lhasa region, soaring to an impressive 7,191 meters.

Descending from the pass, you’ll arrive at the lake’s edge, where you can enjoy a peaceful walk along the shoreline. Take your time to absorb the lake’s vivid colors, the silence of the surrounding mountains, and the spiritual stillness that defines this revered site.
