Biska Jatra is one of Nepal’s most thrilling and visually striking festivals, celebrated with unmatched energy in the ancient city of Bhaktapur. Held in mid-April to mark the Nepali New Year, the festival is known for its dramatic tug-of-war-style chariot battles, where locals pull giant wooden chariots bearing the images of gods Bhairab and Bhadrakali through narrow, crowded streets. Towering wooden poles (lingos) are also erected and ritually pulled down as part of the spectacle. With masked dances, music, local rituals, and a festive atmosphere that spills into every alley, Biska Jatra is both a cultural treasure and an adrenaline-charged celebration that draws thousands of spectators each year.
